What does live performance look like in virtual worlds and how can virtual production be used? Step behind the curtain with Director Kiira Benzing of Finding Pandora X, winner of the Venice Film Festival’s Best VR Immersive User Experience Award and the Audience Award at the 2021 SXSW Festival. Virtual Production is a term that has become commonplace in the last 18 months. Covid-19 has forced filmmakers to reconsider their production methodologies while shows like Disney's The Mandalorian are leveraging new and familiar augmented technologies to produce impossible storytelling. From LED walled stages, and volumetric capture, to Virtual Beings and AI: Virtual Production is changing the landscape of content. We bring together Virtual Productions entrepreneurs who are moving the needle and building technologies that are paving the future of entertainment. What role are game engines playing in this future? What skills are needed to participate in this production revolution? And what is the overlap with the XR industry?

In numerous fictional contemporary movies and television productions, the evaluation of crime scenes has been depicted with varying degrees of sophistication. C.S.I. introduced, not only new technology, but established new ways for law enforcement and juries to interpret physical evidence. Not every innovation has had a positive impact on the investigatory process. The Minority Report added the predictive twist and the dangers for abuse that foresight can bring. The underlying technology, however, successfully inspired many tools being used by law enforcement today, including crime predicting software. The scope of this presentation is to highlight the ability of immersive technology, both augmented and virtual, to have a beneficial effect on all aspects of criminological inquiry.
