The presentation "Scaling VR Simulation Production in the Oil & Gas Industry" explores the rapidly expanding application of virtual reality (VR) in the energy sector. Particular focus will be on Linde, a leading global industrial gases and engineering company, that has been at the forefront of utilising VR technology to enhance their training and operations.
This case study will explore how Linde has successfully scaled their VR simulation production, the challenges they've encountered, the solutions they've implemented, and the impacts on their operational efficiency and safety performance. We will examine the strategies Linde used in building their Virtual Academy, the key learnings from their journey, and how these insights could be applied across the Oil & Gas industry in the face of increasing operational complexity and safety challenges.
We will discuss the opportunities and challenges associated with the large-scale production of VR simulations and we will explore the current state of VR technology, its potential for creating safer and more effective training programs, and the barriers to its wide adoption. We'll also delve into the production of VR simulations, discussing scalability strategies, cost optimisation, and quality control, as well as highlighting successful case studies from the field.
Attendees can look forward to a comprehensive understanding of how to design, produce, and deploy VR simulations at scale, as well as insights on addressing the unique demands of the Oil & Gas industry.
This presentation is ideal for industry professionals, VR solution developers, and educators interested in leveraging cutting-edge technology for practical and high-impact applications in the energy sector.

The automotive industry will be the mass metaverse adopter with windshields acting as a new medium for AR (holographic) objects immersed into the reality. With cars being driverless computers on wheels, the occupants will experience new content consumption playing games and discovering information about the surroundings while commuting from A to B. No headsets or glasses needed.

At PALFINGER we started experimenting with VR and AR early in 2016. Over the years we did a lot of PoCs in the AR space, and used VR to make our products operatable on trade fairs. Surprisingly our customers wanted to buy our "simulators" that were only intended to show new products, to use them for training purposes. So after a while, we at PALFINGER restructured the VR Side, and founded a new product line that now develops VR Operator Training simulators for Crane drivers and other lifting solutions by PALFINGER. A success story of VR in a big company that goes beyond VR Meetings and Trade fair showcases.

Understanding what is hype and what is of true value is essential for large enterprises as they navigate an ever evolving technical and consumer landscape. A year or so ago, the Metaverse was the hot buzzword, now it's been superseded by ChatGPT and the rush to invest in Large Language Models. Where does the Apple Vision Pro come into it? Is it worth investing research time and cost? Vendors, start-ups and consultants can offer over-optimistic appraisals of new technologies, adding to the hype and confusion.
Andy discusses what's important to an Enterprise Innovation team - from an objective viewpoint - focusing particularly on Augmented and Virtual technologies, giving examples of projects undertaken in this space, lessons learned, and predictions for the next few years.
