AWE USA 2025
In this talk, we'll explore the pivotal role of milliseconds in elite sports performance and decision-making. Using examples from the Olympics and historical sports data, the lecture demonstrates how fractions of a second can determine the difference between victory and defeat. The analysis also explores how athletes process information, anticipate movements and execute decisions in less than a second under high-pressure conditions. The talk further emphasizes the importance of skill acquisition as well as visual and neural responses. Based on this context, XR is discussed and applied - which has the potential to enhance training and decision-making in sport and high performance. These insights extend beyond the sporting sector, offering potential applications in fields where time-constrained decisions are critical, such as healthcare, surgery and aviation. Optimal high performance under pressure is a specialised skill, where every moment matters.
