The power of XR for training is now well established – endless projects have shown that it can reduce training time and risk, increase knowledge retention, improve trainee throughput, and much more. The ROI is clear and enterprise organizations are increasingly looking to bring this technology into their core learning strategies.

But it’s not easy. There are still a number of barriers – some of which can only be solved by key players, but others which can be addressed by a different approach across the industry. Enterprise customers need cost-effectiveness, choice and flexibility to scale – so how do we provide this? And if content is king, how do XR creators and technology companies work together to create an environment with more options, fewer barriers and better solutions? There is a better way.

Description

When an immersive experience takes on all or most of a person’s senses, it becomes a new dimension. Large amount of creativity goes into architecting a dimension (characters, story line, visual, sound, touch feedback) and large amount of compute goes into rendering such dimension into reality (high quality sound and graphics, tracking) this on top of the ingenious instrumented space where such dimension exists.

Previously, rendering of sounds and visuals of a dimension were limited to the amount of compute a person could carried. Compute offloading with high bandwidth, low latency wireless technologies are removing such limitation. New dimensions can quickly utilize what state of the art compute and rendering technologies can deliver with the potential of shortening development and deployment cycles.

‘Metaverse’ technologies have promised to bring us together, but many have left us with the illusion of connection. Removing us from the familiar into uncanny and uncomfortable experiences that cannot be sustained or enjoyed by all. We need to start with places where our friends and family gather together. Tilt Five builds on everyone’s favorite pastime – game night – and sprinkles in augmented reality (AR). Blending physical presence and virtual ones, Tilt Five’s holographic gaming system allows for users to interact with each other, whether together or remotely, and of course, the holograms on their table! Jeri Ellsworth joins AWE to share how we can create meaningful social interactions by reinventing game night.

There are many great, functioning examples of virtual environments in the Metaverse. And still there is not a clear reason WHY we are building and creating so frantically as if somehow, the Metaverse gates were about to close.

It's interesting that there are very good, affordable devices out there for consumers to get into The Metaverse, but usage data suggests that even hardcore amers aren't spending a long time in headset. With this panel, we will explore:
• The way that creators are thinking about the future of storytelling
• The psychology of The Metaverse - why will consumers care?
• Elevating the human experience
• How storytelling will evolve and the tools required to produce a different kind of narrative
• What is myth and what is real relative to The Metaverse

If you’re a founder, you’re probably used to Investors asking all the questions. But in this session we want to flip things around and give the power to the founders. We’ve invited 4 investors who all focus on investing in AR/VR, Spatial Computing and the Metaverse. They will have 2 minutes to pitch their own funds and the areas they’re interested in and then it’s over to you. Want their opinion on the startup you're building? Curious to get their hot take on a specific use case or opportunity? Wondering if they’re tired of defining what the Metaverse means to them? It’s up to you to ask.

Description

Businesses have boarded the XR bandwagon in the areas of marketing/user experience as well as employee onboarding and training, largely using asynchronous simulations or immersive experiences. Early XR adoption in university courses seems to be either from a technical skill building perspective or from an angle of exploring the possibilities of immersive technologies.

Synchronous learning in VR is largely overlooked at present, yet has many untouted benefits such as the ability to recreate the magic of community, shared knowledge, and belonging, which in-person training and education offered learners for decades. Learning in VR synchronously can be a meaningful way of enhancing immersive technology adoption in academia and industry.

This panel will discuss the various dimensions of integrating VR as the post-Zoom frontier in education and corporate training.

In the session we will explore how dynamic aberrations correction can increase the apparent resolution, eliminate color fringing and pupil swim effects, and enlarge the eye-box in the highest-end displays, such as Oculus Quest, Varjo VR-1 and HP Reverb G2.

Having to achieve high resolution, wide field of view, and large eye-box, the VR/AR head-mounted display makers face the challenges impossible to overcome by hardware design alone. Even the latest-and-greatest devices retain the common flaws spoiling user experience: blur and color fringing outside of the small “sweet spot,” picture quality degradation and geometry distortion at wide gaze angles, and a tiny eye box.

In order to achieve realistic picture quality and natural visual experience, the rendering pipeline has to include advanced image pre-processing beyond the standard geometry warp and channel scaling. Almalence created the Digital Lens, a computational solution utilizing a precise characterization of HMD optical properties along with a dynamic aberration correction technique, adjusting on the fly to the eye-tracking data.

Many enterprises already realized use cases, in which immersive technologies generate added value. One of the key questions is still how to roll out these use case across the company at a large scale. The usage of complex data, visual quality of content, security aspects as well as the infrastructural base are challenges. Philipp Landgraf (Holo-Light) and Terry Schussler (Telekom) explain, how XR streaming and 5G solutions, such as managed latency, help to increase quality, reliability, and ultimately large rollouts of XR solutions.
